Fortinbras, the headstrong Prince of Norway, had landed on the Danish coast to take advantage of the recent Danish-Norwegian accord that would allow the Norwegian forces to invade Poland through Danish territory. The Norwegians boats filled the harbour and were unloading the munitions frenetically.
“Captain, take my greetings to the Danish King,” said Fortinbras. “Tell him, that as agreed earlier, we demand the safe conduct of Norwegian forces through his kingdom. You know our rendezvous. If he wishes our company, we will express our respects to him.”
“I will, my lord,” the captain said.
“Go safely.”
